The Tissue & Blood Collections and DNA Barcodes of birds has been established and progressed
Tissue & Blood Collections as well as database of them have been set up since 1999 based on the National Nature Science Foundation (No.39770092, 39730080, 30170126, 30270203, 30270182, 30670276), Grants from Chinese Academy of Sciences (KSCX2-1-06A, KSCX2-YW-N-063 & KSCX3-IOZ-0614) and from Ministry of Science and Technology (2006FY110500, 2006BAD06A01). Specimens were mainly collected from the field ornithological expeditions, including over 7000 samples of about 620 species in over 220 genera, 60 families and 20 orders. The collections contain tissue kept in 95%-100% ethanol, blood kept in Tris-EDTA buffer, and molting feather naturally dried and kept in the container, which are all freezed in the refrigerator. Each sample contains information of the species, individual, type of specimen, collecting date, collector, locality (with longitude and latitude), altitude, habitat, and even sex. Each sample has also standardized code and original field code which can facilitate to get more information on their taxonomic status and more knowledge from the field records. The establishment of this collection has been being processed and linked with DNA sequences and morphological field diagnostics, which is developed for DNA Barcoding Program of China Birds. Welcome to join the development of this collections and cooperative researches.
