The current research focuses of the group include: avian taxonomy, faunal research, molecular phylogeny, phylogeography, vocalization, how birds adapted to the high Tibetan Plateau environments, as well as the breeding biology and conservation of rare & endangered avian species. The group has set up and progressed the "Bird Tissue and Blood Collections", "Bird Sound Collections" and "Bird Distribution Database" besides the "skin, skeleton and eggs collections"
